History

In 1972, Keshab Chandra Nag, the renowned mathematician and a direct disciple of Holy Mother SriSri Maa Sarada Devi, bought a piece of land, next to his house at Gurap, in the district of Hooghly, as the most sacred place, the birth place of Revered Sriamt Swami Vishuddhanandaji Maharaj, the 8th President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math. To perpetuate the memory of Swami Vishuddhanandaji, in 1981 Keshab Chandra Nag founded an Ashrama on that piece of land in the name of “Gurap Shri Ramakrishna Vishuddhananda Ashrama-O-Sevakendra (later known as “Gurap Shri Ramakrishna Sevashrama”), as he received all his inspiration from Swami Vishuddhanandaji Maharaj.

From the very outset of its foundation, the Ashrama is engaged in many public welfare activities with an object to serve all men and women as various forms of God. Gurap has a long standing reputation of being an absolutely peaceful place, where people of different religions, castes etc live together and perform their social and religious functions harmoniously.

Gurap Shri Ramakrishna Sevashrama was taken over by the Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal in 2016 under the name of ‘Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama’ as a branch center of the Mission.
